Program Description

he Master of Arts in Elementary Education at Southeast Missouri State University is an online graduate degree that offers three emphasis areas:

  • Reading
  • Math / Science
  • Early Childhood Education. 

This program is designed to help classroom teachers deepen their teaching skills and knowledge in their field of expertise, or expand their background into a new teaching area and/or certification. The graduate program in Elementary Education has 33 credit hours of course work, with all classes online, making the program convenient for busy classroom teachers.

(Note: this graduate program does not lead to an initial teaching certification, but does offer an advanced teaching certificate as a Reading Specialist)

Students are able to choose an emphasis area of study that meets their career interests and needs while receiving personal attention form a faculty advisor with expertise in the area of study.

Admissions Requirements

  • The applicant must have a teaching certificate or a qualifying score on the Missouri Content Exam or take and be in the 50th percentile of the verbal and analytic components of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Millers Analogy Test (MAT).
  • Undergraduate grade point average of 2.75.
