  • Southeast Beta Alpha Psi Chapter Named for Alumnus

    CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 24, 2014 – Kenneth W. Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University, announced today that alumnus Thomas K. McCain has established a $250,000 endowment for the Mu Xi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), thus providing long-term funding for the Southeast College of Business student organization.  After consultation with the international organization of Beta Alpha Psi, the local chapter was renamed the Thomas K. McCain Mu Xi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the first time in the history of the international organization that a chapter has been named for an individual....

  • Southeast Cybersecurity Student Interns with Homeland Security, Invited to White House

    Surmeier croppedCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 24, 2014 – Joe Surmeier, a Southeast Missouri State University senior cybersecurity major from Kansas City, Missouri, has been invited to attend a recognition dinner and round table with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the White House in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 29.

    Surmeier was a part of the Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative Secretary’s Honor Program as a student intern this past summer. During this time, Surmeier worked in the Intelligence and Analysis office of DHS assisting with cybersecurity....

  • Stained Glass Artwork to be Unveiled at Kent Library’s 75th Anniversary Celebration at Southeast

    UCM-PrintersMarkCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 23, 2014 – Kent Library is unveiling 45 pieces of stained glass by the renowned artist, G. Owen Bonawit, and offering tours of its Rare Book Room to celebrate its 75th anniversary from 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 7.

    These 75-year-old works of art have been taken out of storage and re-mounted to commemorate their installation and the 75th anniversary of the dedication of Kent Library. Attendees will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with Bonawit’s work in their new location, which allows a clear view of the incredible glasswork and exquisite details, said Dr. David Starrett, dean of Academic Information Services and director of Kent Library....

  • Area Schools to Receive Book Chronicling Life in Southeast Missouri

    canalouSIKESTON, Mo., Oct. 20, 2014 – “Canalou: People, Culture, Bootheel Town,” a collection of stories about the author’s experiences growing up and living in the Missouri Bootheel, has recently been published by the Center for Regional History at Southeast Missouri State University and will soon be delivered to area schools.

    Richard Montgomery of Sikeston, Mo., has made a $7,500 gift to the Center to ship 500 copies of the book in November to schools throughout the region. The gift will be officially presented at 10 a.m. Oct. 22 at Southeast Missouri State University-Sikeston....

  • Advanced Technology Showcase Scheduled for Nov. 7

    STA-EngineeringTechCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 20 2014 – The Department of Polytechnic Studies at Southeast Missouri State University will host an Advanced Technology Showcase from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, in the Otto and Della Seabaugh Polytechnic Building.

    A new Showcase format is available this year with identical morning and afternoon sessions available from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m.  Schools will need to choose one session to attend (either morning or afternoon) and plan on staying for the entire session....
